Fatal Northern Westchester Crash: Community Rallies To Raise Funds For Family Of Beloved Dad

A community is mourning the loss of a father who was killed in a crash in Northern Westchester and now leaves behind his two daughters.

Peekskill resident Rich “Butt” Lent, Jr. died on Saturday, July 15 in a motor vehicle crash that happened in Croton-on-Hudson around 2:30 p.m. on Route 9 southbound.

According to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, the crash, which involved a motorcycle, caused a fire that burned on the side of the road and also caused a portion of the main route to be temporarily closed. 

Now, in the days since the crash, Lent's family is mourning the loss of a man who now leaves behind two young daughters. 

His family will not have to face their grief alone though, as community members are pooling together to raise money for Lent's funeral expenses by donating to a GoFundMe page started on Sunday, July 16 by his family member, Jennifer Lent. 

On the fundraiser page, Jennifer Lent writes that Lent would "give you the shirt off his back without any questions asked." 

"This was something so sudden and none of us expected this," she added. 

As of Monday, July 17 around 6 p.m., around $3,000 had been raised for Lent's family out of a $10,000 goal.

Police have not released details about what caused the fatal crash.
